Fr. Noel Tria was appointed as the Administrator of our parish on May 11, 2009. He is originally from the Philippines, where he was ordained as a priest in 1998. He resided here until January 30, 2012, when he moved on to his next assignment.
Fr. Tria is now the Administrator of St. Mark's in Newberry as well as St. Boniface in Joanna and Holy Spirit in Laurens. He continues to serve as a chaplain at the Edgefield Federal Correctional Institution on Wednesdays. He will also celebrate the Filipino Mass here at St. Mary's on the fourth Sunday of each month at 5:00 PM.
The following farewell note appeared in the bulletin on February 5, 2012:
My Dear Friends,
With the changes taking place within the Diocese, I have been reflecting about my experiences in coming to South Carolina.
I want to thank all my parishioners from St. Mary’s for their southern hospitality. Thank you for teaching me the all the “American” ways on how to live, eat and work.
I value all the experiences we’ve shared together; our laughter and tears have contributed to my continued spiritual growth.
Physically, I may not be here in Edgefield but my heart will always have a special place for you. I can never forget the simple lifestyle and elegance of your beautiful historic town.
St. Mary’s Church is an important part of the Edgefield community and needs your vibrant spirituality as you continue to grow. Embrace the opportunities that lie ahead and continue to live and pray in the way of the Lord.
God Bless,
Fr. Noel P. Tria
